Useful Health and Fitness Resources
As most that know me are aware, I'm not even close to what would be called a Health Nut. I don't eat the best foods, I don't exercise enough, I don't even research enough on what I should be doing. That being said, I'm not a total Slob/Couch Potato either. I enjoy working out (unless it's just general steady state Cardio), I enjoy lifting weights, I enjoy sports, and most of all, I enjoy being out and playing with my girls.
Honestly, I never even considered working out or going to the gym until my oldest daughter began getting old enough to play outside. At that time, I found out real quick how bad out of shape I was and knew it was time to do something about it. The real problem at that time was that "I don't have any clue on what I need to do to get in better shape". We had joined a gym, but didn't have the money to Personal trainer (That was a blessing in disguise), so I had to start researching what I should be doing with my goals to get stronger, and have a bit more endurance in mind. My research led me to a few websites and resources that I still use today for information and I wanted to compile this list so that it may help others who are beginning their journey to get in better shape.
These are in no particular order, just sites I still use.
- Strength Basics Blog
- Starting Strength Website, Forum, and Book (Yes, I bought the book and even read most of it)
- ExRx.Net Website
- Ross Training Website
- Fit Day Food Logs
- Marks Daily Apple food and exercise resources
- Crossfit Workouts
- Joe Defranco - WS4SB Routine
- Dave Tate - Good Videos on Bench Press and other Lifting (view at your own risk, some are NOT rated PG)
- Marke Rippetoe - Starting Strength Routine
- Jim Wendler - 5/3/1
- Kenny Croxdale - Overall, just great knowledge and a former Power Lifter
And Most recently, I have been trying to get a nice setup at the house, because I haven't had time to actually Go to the gym with 2 little girls at home, so I have been using these resources as I build and/or buy my equipment.
- Bodybuilding.com equipment Forum
- New York Barbell - For Equipment Ideas
- Craigslist - Cheaper used equipment
I might as well go ahead and say this also. If you have any equipment you aren't using, and want to get rid of, contact me, I am always looking for more items. Right now I really need more weight plates and some dumbbells.
Look back in the future for some details on the equipment I am currently building. Power Rack, Dip Station, etc..
