Iphone: I made it Ra1n
I have never been happy to just leave well enough alone. I must always tinker with something. Even to the point of breaking the item at times. But, this is usually how I learn, I change this, then change that, then test and check to determine what difference it made. Then, I may even try and reverse everything and make it like new again. Who knows really.
Once I had an Iphone, this did not change. I wasn't happy with just using it as designed, I wanted to modify it to my tastes, use it for other purposes than Apple Intended. This is when I began researching and found many others who wanted the same thing. And Even several programs which would allow me to modify the phone easier. So I began the process of Jailbreaking my phone.
Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple's official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia and Icy. Cydia app store founder Jay Freeman estimates that 4 million (out of 40 million) iPods and iPhones are jailbroken.[1]Jailbreaking is distinct from unlocking, which is the process by which a mobile device is made compatible with telephone networks with which it was not specifically licensed to be used.
Apple doesn't like for End-Users to Jailbreak their phones, therefore they are always updating their Anti-Jailbreak techniques and firmware (Apple;s Iphone Updates) to try and stay ahead of the Jailbreakers. The most recent Firmware as of this writing is 3.1.2, and within just a couple of days, maybe even less, one of the Jailbreak Developers had already released a Jailbreak tool. This program is called Blackra1n and can be found at his website .
I'm not going to give a step by step instructions on how to do this, but I am going to say that the program works and works well. The Process start to finish was the quickest and easiest Jailbreak method I have used. In addition, this method provides several options for adding Non-Apple Approved 3rd party software to your Iphone.
Is anyone interested in the Apps I like and use on My Jailbroked phone? If so, let me know and I may write about them next.
