What's So Special about an Iphone
Is the Iphone really that Special? The World is charging after this phone, like it is the savior. I'll tell you it's not the savior, but it is a pretty good phone. I'm not sure I can consider it the best phone I have ever had though.
To Expand, I should give a bit of a background about the Mobile Phones I have used or had. I started using phones myself about 16 years ago during the Nights and Weekends. At that time, my father carried the phone for business during the week, and nights and weekends, I would carry the phone and burn it up. It wasn't like it is today, where youth and even pre-teens begin carrying cell phones before they are even allowed out of site of their parents.
Since then, I have had several different phones, from nearly all the local carriers. I must admit that I have not been happy with each phone, but in reality, they all got the job done. Some were just better than others. Fast Forward to around 2006, and I picked up my first Windows Mobile© Smartphone. This phone was a Cingular 2125, and was labeled a "Candy Bar Phone" due to it's Tall and Narrow frame.
I ended up with the 2125, because I wanted/needed to have phone that could Sync with Microsoft Exchange Server. This phone was advertised to be able to do this and it did. The Over the Air Sync feature was not the greatest though, and often times, it would be necessary to reboot the phone. Actually, a Hard Reboot/restart was necessary several times a week to ensure the phone would continue working.

Around the same time that I was using the Cingular 2125, I had co-workers, friends, and family who were using other Windows Mobile Spartphhones and PDA Phones. Due to this, I had the opportunity to help setup and configure many of these phones. It seems as though most agreed that setting up these phones to Sync properly was a big chore. It should have been much simpler.
Now, jumping to the Current round of phones. The Iphone.... I jumped at getting one of the second Generation phones, the 3G. This was the first version of hte Iphone to sync Over the Air (OTA) with Exchange. I admit that I was quite a bit skeptical about this phone initially, but knew that Apple has a history of producing quality hardware. After getting the phone, I found that setup was a breeze, talking and using the phone was pretty easy, and after the first or second time dropping the phone, I found that it was fairly rugged also. The phone worked good enough for me to begin recommending it to others who asked about getting a new phone. What even made this phone much better was the App Store, which provided a huge array of programs (Apps) which easily install and work on the phone. Windows Mobile phones do not have anything even close to this. Adding Programs to a Windows Mobile Phone is truly a painful task, and Apple has taken this pain away.
I'm fairly tech savvy, could get it setup and configured and I was happy with my Iphone, and I was even recommending it to others, I still didn't truly know what made it so special. Until, I started listening to what others were saying. The same friends and family who always had me setup their Smartphones, or PDA phones were buying Iphones, setting them up and using them without even giving me a call. Then after that, when an update was available, those same friends would have the update installed before I did. This is truly amazing...
So, what's so special... I've determined it's truly one simple item. IT JUST WORKS... If it didn't JUST WORK, I would be getting more calls asking how to fix it. I rarely get those type of calls for the Iphone.
I suppose I should say Thank You Apple.
